You want local music? Have I got a treat for you. Last week, Tribes Hill announced its best event yet: a “Westchester’s Greatest Hits” concert on September 28 at the Tarrytown Music Hall. The Hudson Valley non-profit music organization has booked some seriously stellar local talent: headliners are the majestic Sloan Wainwright and the whimsical Gandalf Murphy and the Slambovian Circus of Dreams, and WFUV folk music deejay Bob Sherman will emcee. A long list of independents will also perform, some internationally renowned, and others known only by local coffee shop patrons. But don’t worry if you don’t know them—you’ll still be able to sing along. Our local celebrities will croon the hits of megawatt celebrities, including Don McLean, Aerosmith, Lee Hays and Aaron Copland.
Not to brag, but this blog is no stranger to Gandalf Murphy and the Slambovian Circus of Dreams. As you may recall, the band performed in our very own Listening Room in April. Check it out:
So maybe I’m bragging just a bit now, but as a staff writer for InTown Westchester magazine, I interviewed and wrote about Sloan Wainwright. You can read the March feature, “Genetic Jackpot” to learn about her talented family, and a few other prominent neighbors whose families will make your Harvard grad look like yesterday’s newspaper.

Above, a photo of Sloan, tappin’ on some vintage keys in her Katonah studio, taken by InTown photographer Elizabeth Orozco.
Other performers are listed below (Warning: Clicking on their names may cause titillating tunes to spill from your speakers!)
James Durst, David Goldman, Elza, Marc Von Em, Anthony da Costa, Susan Kane, Matt Turk, Fred Gillen, Jr., Marc Black, Judy Kass, Iris Cohen, Steve Kirkman, Glen Roethel and Eddie Denise.
And while we’re doing shout outs, here’s a nod to the Arts Alive program of the Westchester Arts Council and the Decentralization Program of the New York State Council on the Arts for funding this awesome, awesome event.
I’ll see you there!
