Got an email from Rockland Magazine cover girl (May 2008 issue, “Rockland Idols“) and Piermont native Britney Boras on Friday. As the article mentions, she’s a Jazz Studies major down at NYU (her late-father used to chair the department), who performs around the city and up here as well. Looks like she’s starting a singer-songwriter meetup of sorts in the West Village. The group will be getting together at Cachaca, which is at 35 W 8th St. near Washington Sqaure Park. It’s starting Sept. 6 and will be Saturday afternoons from 3—6 p.m.
The get-together is open to the public, but it’s not an open mic thing, so you’ll need to contact her about booking via MySpace.  You don’t have to be a musician, necessarily (if you want to play that would help, though). Just someone who’d like to hear some music, and get invovled in the creative process. It’s kind of a non-competitive, “right on, man” sort of thing. I like the sound of it.
