Gotta love VH1’s plethora of “Top 100” shows, but what’s with all the genre confusion? I guess you can make a case for the Stones’ “Satisfaction” as number one on the Rock Songs list, but how does Aretha Franklin’s “Respect” end up number two on this list? And there’s Marvin Gaye on the list four times. “What’s Going On” is one of my favorite albums, but on a best rock n roll songs list? Oy. Next thing you know they’ll give the heavy metal Grammy to Jethro Tull over Metallica.
On a different note, I was happy to see my two high school “sleeper” rock bands on the list of the “Top 100 Hard Rock Acts.” That would be UFO at 84 and Thin Lizzy at 51. No sign of Stiv Bators and the Dead Boys, but we’ll fight that battle on another day.
