Doors keyboardist/songwriter Ray Manzarek celebrates his 70th birthday today — but he’s showing no sign of slowing down. Nearly 44 years after the legendary rock band got its start, Manzarek announced last month that he would hit the road again later this year with Riders on the Storm, the reformed Doors that includes original guitar player Robbie Krieger.

Formed in 1965, the Doors quickly gained wide acclaim with singer Jim Morrison and drummer John Densmore joining Manzarek and Krieger. The band released a half-dozen studio albums before Morrison’s death on July 3, 1971, and several tribute albums after. Manzarek never strayed from the music business after the band’s demise, playing with performers as varied as Iggy Pop and Philip Glass, as well as on several new Doors lineups over the years.
