Metallica frontman James Hetfield was rushed to a Swedish hospital over the weekend, apparently suffering from food poisoning, contactmusic.com reports today. Hetfield’s sudden ailment forced the band to cancel its Stockholm show on Saturday, much to the chagrin of the 16,000 fans on hand.

The metal stalwarts are in the midst of the European wing of a world tour behind their latest release, Death Magnetic. They’re also in line to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this year.
Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich said the band would make up the cancelled show. Meanwhile, doctors said Hetfield had suffered severe food poisoning. He was released early this morning.
