Scottish crooner Paolo Nutini tells fans that his upcoming second album will be titled “Sunny Side Up,” an indication that he’s close to finally releasing the follow-up to his 2006 debut, These Streets.
I can’t say it’s the most creative name for a second album. But the kid’s got termendous talent, so it stands to reason that the music will be worth checking out.

The 22-year-old Scottish-born singer has been performing throughout Europe for the better part of a year, trying out new material that his record label says will make it onto the next album.
And it’ll be interesting to see how the record does as a follow-up to These Streets, which had two tracks—“New Shoes” and “Last Request”—that got some airplay on American stations.
Nutini will be interesting to watch in general. He’s got the teen-idol thing going, but also has incredible potential as a singer/songwriter. He was really just a kid wanting to make it when, in 2003, he showed up for a performance by Scottish singer David Sneddon and Sneddon was late showing up. So Nutini volunteered to keep the crowd entertained during the wait and, pop, he’s discovered.
Now the ball is pretty much in his court. He’ll either go the teen heart throb route, or he’ll establish himself as a legitimate artist—or a mix of the two. He’s certainly got the ability.
