Local songwriter/guitarist Geoff Hartwell will celebrate the release of his second album — “Hate To See You Go” — with not one, but TWO parties this weekend! I mean, the man’s a rock star. Gotta do it big, right?
Check him out Friday at the Bayou in Mount Vernon, 580 Gramatan Ave; and Saturday at 12 Grapes in Peekskill, 12 North Division St. Both spots are pretty awesome, so I’m sure it’ll be a good time.
Hartwell and his band have been together since they were only teens growing up in Westchester County. In addition to this regular crew, the new album also features some impressive names. Slide-guitar legend Sonny Landreth, for instance, is featured on the opening track. Know the band Morphine? Well, the smoldering baritone sax of Dana Colley is featured on two tracks. And last but not least, Cindy Cashdollar, the lap steel player from the touring bands of Bob Dylan, Van Morrison and Ryan Adams, contributes her magic to two songs as well.
“It was a great experience to be able to play all this music with such world-class talent. I feel incredibly lucky to not only have my band-mates sticking with me, but also to be joined on this recording by such amazing guests,” says Hartwell. “And it’s really important to me to have these parties at these places — both the Bayou and 12 Grapes have been incredibly supportive of me and my music, and this is my home. It’s been a rough time for everyone, but I think it’s really inspiring that we’re still finding ways to make music and support each other!”
The new album will be available for the first time at the CD release parties. The collection of songs on “Hate To See You Go” range from raw and intimate solo readings to wild full-band excursions. Hartwell says the music will “take you all over the stylistic map” — from funk to rock to blues and beyond.
The Geoff Hartwell Band, which also includes drummer J.J. Clarke, bass player Rich Kelly, and keyboard player Chris Burke, will perform two sets of live music at each party comprised of material from the new CD and their previous album “Perfect Stranger.”
