Green Day rocks Central Park in GMA debut concert

The Good Morning America summer concert series kicked off in Central Park this morning with Grammy-winning rockers Green Day starting things off for the season.
And it was quite a treat.
I have to tell you, I expected one, maybe two songs – after all, it was my first trek to the Good Morning America shows, which have moved to Central Park this year.
But they didn’t disappoint. The band played three sound check songs early in the morning (below): Know Your Enemy and the title track from their new album, 21st Century Breakdown, and then threw in American Idiot, the title track from their 2004 Grammy-winning record.
Then there was a break for GMA to air the band live. So, it was around 8:35 a.m. when they came back on, and treated the crowd to a mini-concert that covered half a dozen tunes and closed out with Jesus of Suburbia from American Idiot, which is basically five songs in one.
I kept my son home from school for this (I’ll cover that in my parenting blog this weekend), and it was well worth the early morning trip, the long line and the wait for the music to start.
Can’t wait to see them in July at the Garden, but I got a big kick out of today. And I can’t imagine getting any closer to the music than we were for this show (see below). And it was free.
If you missed the broadcast, check out some of the clips on YouTube. Here they are doing “Know Your Enemy,” the first single off the new album. Most of you have already heard it, and it’s catching on quickly:
Anyway, here’s the full GMA summer concert schedule. If you see an act you like, I’d recommend it. The shows are at Rumsey Playfield and it’s deceivingly large. So, lots of people fit in comfortably.
