Michaels, 46, posted pics of his injuries on his website, and said the incident forced him to cancel a show scheduled for yesterday in Myrtle Beach. It’ll be made up in August.
If you missed it, Michaels was slow in getting off stage after performing with Poison at the Tony Awards. When he did turn around, he walked face-first into a prop and was knocked to the ground.
“Due to a large stage prop that struck Bret’s head further tests are being conducted on his head and spine,” Michaels’ website says. “Bret Michaels solo tour dates will resume June 12th in Gadsden Alabama and will continue throughout the summer. Bret looks forward to bringing his Rock of Love tour to Myrtle Beach and will see you all on Thursday August 6th.”
According to ContactMusic, Michaels took issue with Tony Awards organizers for not warning him about the moving prop and for refusing to stop the show after he hit the floor.
“I feel had this incident happened to Liza Minnelli, Dolly Parton or Elton John the Tonys would have at least issued a letter of concern,” Michaels’ manager said in a statement. “The full extent of his injuries remains to be seen until all x-rays are back.”
Michaels cranked out a few hits with Poison during the “hair band” era, and has done well as a reality TV star in recent years — his Rock of Love series has filmed three seasons. It’s helped fuel a resurgence for Poison and Michaels’ solo work.
Unfortunately, his hottest video on YouTube this week is the footage of his Tonys accident.
