Hear and be heard

Dave Alvin at the Towne Crier

July
16

Legendary roots rocker Dave Alvin will be hitting the Towne Crier in Pawling next week. And rest assured it’ll be quite a show — the onetime Blasters founder just doesn’t do subpar performances.

This time he’ll be on stage with his latest band, The Guilty Women.

Dave Alvin & The Guilty Women are touring behind their self-titled album, released earlier this year. The band consists of Cindy Cashdollar, Nina Gerber, Laurie Lewis, Christy McWilson, Sarah Brown, Amy Farris and Lisa Pankratz.

Alvin put the band together after the death of his friend and bandmate Chris Gaffney, an accordianist in Alvin’s band, The Guilty Men. After some jam sessions with the female lineup, Alvin sensed the magic and recorded the album.

Alvin and his brother, Phil, formed the Blasters in 1979, and quickly drew a large following. However, the acclaim didn’t produce commercial success, and Alvin walked away in 1986. But he hardly took a rest.

He went on to play with a number of noted bands, including X, The Flesh Eaters and The Gun Club. He also went on to produce other artists and released a number of solo albums.

Here’s your chance to see him at work. The show is next Thursday, July 23.
