New York City public radio station WFUV 90.7 FM and NPR Music announced today that they’ll be broadasting George Wein’s Folk Festival 50 in Newport.
The 50th anniversary Rhode Island music fest — by now a legendary event — will be on air Saturday, Aug. 1 and Sunday, Aug. 2, the stations announced today.
That’s good news for folkies who won’t be able to make the trip to Adams State Park for an all-star lineup that includes folk legend Pete Seeger, the Decemberists, Ramblin’ Jack Elliott and full list of others:
WFUV music director Rita Houston and Bob Bollen, host of NPR’s “All Songs Considered,” will be in Newport for the event and hosting the festival on air.
So, hats off to NPR Music, an online site that draws on National Public Radio and a dozen partner stations, and WFUV radio, a 60-year-old pubic station linked to Fordham University.
