I have to admit that when I started the “Guitar Players You Should Know” series a year ago I had no idea how long I would keep it going.
It wasn’t for lack of want — anyone who reads The Listening Room with any regularity knows my own particular love affair with the guitar.
I just didn’t know how many underappreciated guitar players I could come up with.
Well, we’re up to 50 and I have a lengthy list of others waiting in the wings.
I’ve tried to go across different eras and different styles, although some are still admittedly under-represented. And there aren’t as many women on the list as there should be — something I’ll rectify in the coming months. There are certainly many deserving.
But at the core is the guitar, that beautifully flexible instrument that can twang, scream, cry or soothe in the grasp of a talented musician.
So, thank you for reading. I hope you’ve enjoyed it and will continue to read. Like I said, there’s plenty more to come.
Here’s our list of guitar player profiles so far:
• Keb’ Mo
• Ray Toro
(NOTE: This is part of my ongoing series of reports on guitar players who fly under the mainstream radar. Keep checking The Listening Room for future installments of guitar players you should know – JF)
