Our eyes and ears on the street tell us that last night’s Dark Star Orchestra show at the Tarrytown Music Hall was a classic.
We told you about the show last weekend, and shared our interview with Dark Star drummer Rob Koritz.
In case you’ve been locked in a vault, Dark Star is the nation’s premier Grateful Dead cover band, and has toured extensively since 1997 recreating historic Dead performances. They’ve even jammed with surviving members of the Dead. Talk about a musical trip!
Dark Star has one hard and fast rule: They don’t reveal what Dead show they’re playing until they hit the stage. After the show the set list is published on the band’s website.
Fortunately for The Listening Room, award-winning food editor Liz Johnson from The Journal News was at the show and gave us a jump on the news.
Turns out that Dark Star recreated the Dead’s Jan. 7, 1978 show at Golden Hall in San Diego. Here’s the set list:
All New Minglewood Blues
Cassidy
Sunrise
Passenger
Mexicali Blues
Me and My Uncle
Looks Like Rain
El Paso
Let it Grow
Promised Land
Jack Straw
Dancin’ in the Streets
Samson and Delilah
Playin’ in the Band

The show was a blast! And they really do stick true to the original show. Apparently, back in the day, Jerry had laryngitis for this show, and that’s what they did last night, too. Fake Jerry announced he wouldn’t be singing the second set because of extreme laryngitis!
Mm, pretty great article. Do you provide any kind of rating service because I can’t locate it.
Thanks
Mike Monroe
Hey Mike;
Not sure what you mean, but we don’t rate the shows. Sometimes we do get people out to do concert or record reviews. Generally, we just spread the word!
Great Information, thanks for the useful Post. I will come back later. Also great place for house sellers: sell your house quickly
