Six of the best young bands will face off during the annual Battle of the Bands at Playland Park. The event begins at 7 p.m. July 20 at the park’s Music Tower Theater. (Rain date is July 22.)
The bands — whose members are between 15 to 20 years old — were selected as the cream of the crop out of more than 20 entries. Judging will be done by a panel of music experts that will include individuals from the local and professional music industry.
The winning band will receive a grand-prize trophy, six hours of free recording time courtesy of Acme Recording Studios, Inc., and a $200 gift certificate from Sam Ash Music.
Winners will be invited back to perform at the county’s winter Battle of the Bands at the Westchester County Center in January 2011.
This year’s contenders are:
o Big Stick Policy (New Rochelle)
o Casting Call (Yonkers)
o Forever and After (Hawthorne)
o Pier 54 (Ardsley)
o SCAM (Pearl River)
o Temporary Heroes (Bronxville)
The Battle of the Bands is sponsored by Westchester County Parks, Friends of Westchester County Parks, radio station 107.1 The Peak, and Sam Ash Music in White Plains.
The event is free with paid Playland admission; parking is $5 on Tuesday.
