Clapton, guitars and his buddies (Holly & Guy)

To my fellow guitar geeks: Interested in Eric Clapton’s thoughts on Strats, Martins and Les Pauls? Of course you are. Interested in his thoughts on ridiculously expensive reproductions of a handful of his personal faves, including the legendary and recently departed Brownie? Well…sure.

Rolling Stone has compiled a trio of clips [1] Clapton made with Guitar Center (not among my favorite guitar stores, but what the hell) in which he is presented with a couple replica electric guitars (one Fender, on Gibson, just to keep the gods happy) and a pair of signature Martins and discusses the tools of his trade.

I particularly liked hearing him reminisce about recording While My Guitar Gently Weeps (on a Les Paul, not a Strat) with the Beatles. Even better was his recalling how he got turned on to Strats and his memory of how softly Buddy Holly strummed his Strat and how acrobatically Buddy Guy treated his. Good stuff.
