If you’re a fan of The Flaming Lips or Tame Impala there’s a good chance you made it down to Terminal 5 this past week to catch them on their current tour together. Fans who did were treated to an outstanding opening act, The Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger.
The Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger, or GOASTT, played an excellent set, leaving to a round of applause from the New York City audience. Their music is an eerie dream walk into the world of alternative. Utilizing an eccentric yet beautiful combination of male and female vocal harmonies, along with powerful musicianship.
However, just as exciting as the music are the people behind it. While their live band consists of four members (or five for certain songs), the band officially only has two. Stage front and center is lead guitarist and vocalist Sean Lennon, son of Yoko Ono and the late, great, John Lennon. Sean would have made his father proud with both an excellent singing performance and a guitar solo so vicious it could have been tried for assault. GOASTT is Sean’s new music project, having previously released several solo albums.
Not to be outdone, GOASTT’s other member is the beautiful Charlotte Kemp Muhl, girlfriend of Lennon. Muhl sings and writes all of the band’s songs with Lennon, and plays bass and keyboard during the band’s live set. Aside from GOASTT, Muhl is half of the group “Kemp and Eden” and has had a very successful modeling career.
GOASTT has two projects available for free streaming via Spotify, La Carotte Bleu and Acoustic Sessions. There is also music, tour info, and news available on the band’s website, TheGOASTT.com.
