What a pleasant way to start a Monday!
I got a great note over the weekend from Marian, the lead singer of Rockland folk foursome Project Mercury (listen HERE). Below, she and bandmates Charlene, Craig, and Jeanne give updates, and spread some season cheer:
In numbers, some of the things we are thankful for this year!
1st birthday of Emily, Charlene’s [...]

There’s no better post-Thanksgiving activity than SMASHING PUMPKINS!
For those of you who are out of the derby loop, the Suburbia Roller Derby is a group of bad-ass, no-holds-barred, sexy skatin’ mamas.
And this FRIDAY, November 28 (the night after the night of thanks), they will be hosting a kick-ass shin dig at Barney McNabb’s (600 Tuckahoe [...]

I’ll put it out there: I don’t like cover bands. Call me a cranky cynic (don’t screw up a good thing) or an elitist Emersonain (Imitation is Suicide), I just like my rock on the rocks, no mixer, thankyouverymuch.
So imagine my surprise, while tagging along on a friend’s bar-hopping birthday binge through White Plains on [...]

Last week, Rockland rockers Coheed & Cambria took over Terminal 5 in Midtown, Manhattan, playing four sold-out shows to wrap up their four-city “Neverender” series. The final performance, on Saturday, was decent—but honestly, as much as I love the band, I was relieved when the “neverender” came to a close.
A disclaimer: I haven’t seen [...]

The West Indian American Day Carnival Parade passed you by this past Labor Day.
No problem, mon! There’s plenty of Caribbean charm right here in the Best-Chester and beyond … you just have to look for it. No worries there—I’ve done all your work for you. Keep readin’, start jammin, skip a few hair appointments, and [...]

Come the end of summer, I’m hamburgered out. But after politely dodging five barbecue invitations (sorry, guys!), I realized the inevitability of smoked meat and end-of-summer beats on Labor Day. So I traded boring ol’ franks for spicy jerk chicken, cold brews for 60-ounce pina coladas, and that awful Kid Rock cover of Sweet Home [...]

Labor day is the unofficial end of summer, and I find that downright depressing. But as autumn moves in, threatening to freeze my spirits (and my flip-flopped feet), I take solace in one thing: beyond cute boots, I look forward to Fall Folk.
There’s something about autumn that brings out the best in folk music. The [...]

You want local music? Have I got a treat for you. Last week, Tribes Hill announced its best event yet: a “Westchester’s Greatest Hits” concert on September 28 at the Tarrytown Music Hall. The Hudson Valley non-profit music organization has booked some seriously stellar local talent: headliners are the majestic Sloan Wainwright and the whimsical [...]
