The 2,800-seat, landmark theater was built in 1928 in the art deco style. Then Warner Brothers purchased the venue and gave it Moroccan and Greek influences. MSG Entertainment acquired it in November 2006.

Simon first performed at the Beacon in 1990 alongside Paul McCartney and returned for a three-night run in December 2000. He also appeared there in 2003 for Willie Nelson’s nationally televised 70th birthday celebration.

Tickets go on sale Jan. 25 for the Feb. 13-14 concerts.

Traditional live Irish music seisiun takes place at Dunne’s Pub in White Plains every Wednesday night from 7:30-10:30 p.m. with Brian Conway & Friends.

These seisiuns have become one of the most popular in the tri-state area. Many famous musicians have played with Brian including Jerry O’Sullivan, Joanie Madden, Mike Rafferty, Martin Mullhare and the late Andy McGann to name a few. That being said, we’ll give it another try next week. Ted Hesson is going to get his feet wet and host for guitarist Gil Parris. Gil’s been nominated for a Grammy and has quite the rep as a session player and with his band Gil Paris and Friends.Ted was asking me for a contact for the show earlier today and I called up Kathy Horn — Gil’s rep — and got a weird message that she wasn’t accepting phone calls right now. Weird. I wish I could do that here at the office.

Anyway, we’ll see if we deliver a fine Listening Room program next week.

Also, I’m not sure what’s going on with the Holiday show anymore … I think it might be scrapped … but what isn’t scrapped is a show we are putting together at the Double Tree Hospital in Tarrytown for a Beer & Food show.

They asked the Big D and I to ask some LR alumni to perform and we got a few robust “Hell, yeah!”s and one I’ll be playing with Rob Thomas that weekend (Aug. 25 and 26).

Rob Thomas, Marc Von Em? or hanging with Big D, Ted 2.0 and Ms. Green? That’s a close one, but I can see why Von Em would want to party down with Thomas.
Actually, I just got off the phone with Marc and he say’s he’s really pumped about touring with Thomas (the former lead singer for Matchbox Twenty)— and if it works out blog on this site about the tour. Von Em already spent one stint in the Rob Thomas Band and I’m excited to hear what he’s got to contribute to Thomas’s new effort. That’d be really sweet. Here’s Von Em’s show:

Diana’s been cheating on the Listening Room blog by sounding off on her new love — 25 Sense — a blog for twentysomethings. She was going off this morning about cereal boxes … I don’t friggin’ get it being 35 and all … but it’s definitely a cool blog. Check it out.

Funny story about Doug’s show:

We were still finding our way (and still are) on the show and he was our first jazz guy. The show went alright … Doug’s humor is pretty dry and I’m a loud mouth, so I had a hard time tracking him during the interview at points. The music was great and Doug did a great job.

The bad part was that Doug performed only ONE original song the other two were covers.

That’s a problem because LoHud.com doesn’t have a broadcast license with ASCAP — and we have no intention of getting one — so after the show it dawned on me that we were going to have to cut the guts out of the ep because if we aired it we’d be on the hook for the copyright fees. That ain’t good.

Anyway, that’s my Doug Monro story. The day I stopped having any problem with telling the crew to stop rolling.

Here’s the thing, most people who come in love music and love to play and love the whole singer-songwriter bit. I get it.

But very few of the artists drip joy when they sing. When you listen to Johanna, she makes you psyched, because she’s so psyched. In fact, I’m still psyched.

Johanna — That’s it. No last name like Milton or Madonna or Marc Von Em (well, except for that last one) — told us a really lame joke about a bear we caught on tape … so we’ll have a little bit of extra footage for the next show and of course she signed the Brick!!!

Diana and I helped pass out about 900 discs and got a great response. The thing I thought was interesting was how many people knew artists from our show but had never heard of us. (Boo)

Hopefully that will change with this awesome blog space!! Where Diana and I will try to add a little community to The Listening Room … especially now that we have our new player from mama Gannett.

(I also got generally abused by the crowd about my Sox cap.)

In case you were wondering which artists had the most street cred with the people at the fest, here’s my informal Top 5:

1) Red Molly — Everyone knew the ladies with the sweet Americana sound.

2) Gandalf Murphy — A lot of people told me that they’d just seen there show at the Tarrytown Music Hall a month or so prior.

3) Marc Von Em — This guy’s one of my favorite show’s because he was so good and I just can’rt get his tracks out of my head (This is where I plug out podcast page GO AHEAD AND DOWNLOAD ALREADY!

4) Geoff Hartwell — Dude, I met your girlfriend’s best friend … she was this cute red head working the both nextdoor. She has a disc for you.

5) Jen Bloom — Hey, she’s a Lucy’s Lounge regular.

Funny story about that Peak T-shirt (above), Liz Johnson of Small Bites fame had to beg it from her contacts at The Peak radio station for me, because I had sweated through my own setting up our booth.

Michelle DeAngelis of Yonkers stopped into The Listening Room yesterday and dropped some power pop on our heads. It was one of my typical book-and-book operations where we weren’t sure what we were getting until Michelle walked in.

Diana has a much more rigourous screening process than I do.

And I had some doubts, too, because the day before I had to explain to her what “cced” meant on e-mails … but maybe that’s not here thing.

What is her thing is singing and songwriting. She blew through three songs with no retakes and really kicked butt.

Michelle grew up in New Rochelle and is a mother of a three-year-old. Michelle’s mom was a professional singer and now Michelle’s daughter is singing also. Quite the family of divas.

Anyway, we should be posting Michelle’s show tomorrow … but more importantly DeAngelis was the first artists to sign our wall of fame that we started in The Listening Room.
